Behind The Scenes: learning 3d kitchen rendering

Top down kitchen render

If you're a subscriber to the LLH newsletter, you already know I’ve been diving deep into interior design this summer. In May, I took a little break from real estate to focus fully on the design side of Livable Luxe Home — and it’s been equal parts fun, challenging, and inspiring.

Right now, I’m in “study mode.” I’m learning more about the design industry and growing my eDesign services — and one of the biggest things I plan to add to my services is 3D rendering.

space planning

Here’s a peek behind the scenes: I’ve been working on a kitchen concept for a “pretend” client. The goal is to make the space fully accessible, functional, and of course — beautiful. I started with space planning and floor layout, figuring out how everything should flow. Because the kitchen isn’t just another room — it’s the heart of the home. And if you ever decide to sell, it’s also the space that tends to give you the biggest return.

The image below is a screenshot of my early floor plan — nothing final, just step one of many. If this were a real-life client, we’d keep tweaking until we land on a final design plan that looks and feels just right.

Cabinets

I'm still learning the tech, but I’ve started building cabinet layouts and testing ideas in the software. Cabinets really set the tone — I believe cabinets are to the kitchen as the spine is to the body. The cabinets determine the fixed structure of the kitchen. The configuration will show where the appliances will be placed and how the space is to be used.

Cabinets come in a variety of styles — the most popular being Shaker, Raised Panel, Flat Panel, and Inset — each setting the tone for your kitchen’s overall look. If you're on a budget, painting or refacing your existing cabinets can make a big impact. Semi-custom options from big box stores offer flexibility at a mid-range price, while fully custom cabinets give you the highest level of design and craftsmanship.

And next week? I’m tackling countertops.

Thanks for following along as I grow and refine this side of my business. The vision is still luxe — I’m just adding more tools to bring it to life.
